Writing with sobriety and sadness related to the terror attack in Tel Aviv, Israel on the evening of 8 June 2016 where four were murdered and seventeen wounded while they sat in a cafe having dessert with friends.

Remembering G-d and remembering Israel’s difficulties today.

May G-d bring comfort and shalom to all Israel this Shabbat.

All we wanted was to spend some time with friends and have a dessert with some coffee, or possibly some dry red wine to wash the chocolate down. We needed to take in the warm summer evening after weeks of running trying to meet our deadlines. It was to be a simple, refreshing evening.

Now we know, it was anything but simple, anything but restful. It was the opposite. Two hate-filled men, who we thought were doing the same as us, sat down nearby, ordered dessert and then opened up their cases, pulled out their guns and began to shoot one individual after another.

A horrific scene: scrambling, running, screaming, tears, blood. Life slipping away for one, two, three, and then four. Many more struggled to keep breathing and stay alive.

May each individual touched by this terrifying event experience comfort from G-d today and in the coming days.

O G-d, what can we do
Help us

Please help Israel
Please help Your people
Please heal, comfort and console Zion today
May You give beauty for ashes today
Would You bestow the oil of joy for mourning
Would You give of your word and your Spirit generously
This Shavuot weekend

Only You can heal wounds of war, terror and trauma
From generations past and of today
Only You can make bring life and hope
In the midst of chaos and suffering

Thank You for remembering Your covenant
Thank You for bringing life and good
Out of death and destruction

Please do what only You, G-d of Israel, can do
For Your people Israel today

Shabbat Shalom to all Israel and to you today.

  1. Hello,
I am following you from Five Minute Friday. Oh my goodness – I hadn’t heard that. It’s terrible. May the Lord comfort and console those who are hurt and grieving. May your country find goodness in the love and care of others.

    1. Yes, really awful stuff! Thanks for stopping by and for your note and prayers. Israel can use them! Blessings to you as well.

  2. Adding my prayers with this as I am also praying for all in Dallas. We in the United States will never understand what it is like to live in Israel or any other place. Thank you for this beautiful prayer.
