Tehillim 131/Psalm 131

Psalm 131

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

Adonai, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me.
Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, hope in Adonai
From this time forth and forevermore.

Tehillim 130/Psalm 130

Psalm 130

A Song of Ascents.
Out of the depths I cry to You, Adonai!
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
to the sound of my supplications.
If You, Adonai, should mark iniquities—
O Lord, who could stand?
For with You there is forgiveness,
that You may be feared.
I wait for Adonai, my soul waits,
and in His word I hope.
My soul waits for my Lord,
more than those who watch for the morning,
yes, more than watchmen wait for the morning.
O Israel, hope in Adonai.
For with Adonai there is lovingkindness and mercy,
and with Him is abundant redemption,
and He will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.

Tehillim 129/Psalm 129

Psalm 129

A Song of Ascents.
“Many a time they have afflicted me,
even from my youth”
—let Israel now say—
“How greatly they have been hostile to me,
even from my youth.
Yet they have not prevailed against me.
Plowmen plowed on my back—
they made their furrows long!”
Adonai is righteous—
He has cut the ropes of the wicked.
May all who hate Zion be driven back in disgrace.
Let them be like grass on the roofs,
which withers before it springs up—
with it a reaper cannot fill his hands,
nor can a binder of sheaves, his arms.
So the passersby may never say:
“The blessing of Adonai be upon you—
we bless you in the Name of Adonai.”

Abba, Do You Hear?

img_2263

Abba, do you hear?
Zion as she cries
The cries, the groaning of Your people
Do you see her desperation?

Zion is crying out

While the leaders of the nations set themselves against
You who made them

Zion still cries out

Zion waits
Wondering,
Hoping her suffering is not in vain

Abba,
Holy One,
Giver of Life

I join Zion’s cry
My heart beats with hers
I cry with Zion
Waiting,
Wondering,
Hoping

Knowing Your desire over Zion
Knowing You will heal her
Knowing You are seeking her out
For Yourself

I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says the LORD, Because they called you an outcast saying: “This is Zion; No one seeks her.” Jeremiah 30:17

Zion’s Healing

IMG_9217 - Version 2

I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says Adonai,
Because they called you an outcast saying: This is Zion; no one seeks her.

– excerpt from the book of the prophet Jeremiah

The heart of the father,
The heart of Adonai
Healing is the bread given to his children
Restoration is the hope for all who are his

Israel is his child,
His firstborn son
When all the nations and all the peoples
Cast you out

O Zion, he will seek you out
Your father will find you
When you are lost and destitute
He will rescue you

The heart of the father,
The heart of Adonai
Calling out, crying out
Bringing life to his children
Remembering their cries

Alive

Barracks and Watchtower at Former Concentration Camp Auschwitz ll-Birkenau
Barracks and Watchtower at Former Concentration Camp Auschwitz ll-Birkenau

Let me tell you a little story.

Today is Purim, or the feast of Esther. The Jewish people were preserved from destruction in Esther’s day. Who could have imagined there would be a company of people in modern times that were far worse than Haman of Esther’s day? Who could have imagined that so few would lift their voices against such a hellish plan of annihilation in “Christian” nations?

I’ve been on a couple of journeys in the last year related to these things.

First, I went to Auschwitz (and Birkenau) – the former Nazi concentration camp that symbolizes the desired annihilation of the Jewish people. This place represents the Shoah (Holocaust). This place witnessed more murder of and cruelty towards the Jewish people than they ever could have imagined. The betrayal by those who had been their neighbors for centuries nearly crushed their corporate soul. Auschwitz and Birkenau tell a story of death, darkness and brutality. But the story doesn’t end there.

The story begins again in Israel.

After going to Auschwitz, I went to Israel again. You have to go to Israel after Auschwitz. This is where the life is. The people of Israel were reborn in a way. G-d regathered his people to the place he promised. The people he called himself after – the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob – were remembered. G-d preserved his people in Esther’s day and G-d preserved his people in our day. Because Israel lives, we know G-d lives.

Happy Purim! ✨

Israel’s Cry

In peering at the Holocaust, one witnesses the depths of the depravity of man. In hearing survivor’s stories, only tears can answer and soothe the deep heartache of these ones. As daily terror against Israel (in words, deeds and boycotts) continues and increases with an energy only resolute hatred or anti-Semitism can explain, I am concerned about what is to come.

Where are the courageous ones standing against the tide of anti-Semitism today? May many who are filled with love for the people of G-d’s choosing be strong and resolute in love in these days. May we hear Israel’s cry and the cry of the heart of G-d.

Israel’s Cry

Israel’s cry is a deep cry
It is a heart-wrenching cry
It is a cry that must be heard

Israel’s cry resounds
On the earth and in the heavens
It is a cry that will not go away
It will be answered

Israel’s cry is a cry
That prophesies
Israel’s cry is a cry
Deeper than words

Israel’s cry touches
The very heart of G-d

Will you hear the cry of a people
Set apart yet reviled
Will you hear the cry of a people
Aching for their G-d

Will you hear the cry of G-d
Longing for his firstborn
Will you hear the cry of Abba
Aching for his children to be near

Weary

IMG_7063

The youth will faint and grow weary, the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the G-d shall renew their strength…they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40

The Holy One of Israel
Doesn’t grow weary
He doesn’t faint
nor forget his people
in their difficulty

He doesn’t turn away
from the people
He called after himself

As Jerusalem suffers,
As Israel experiences
Bigotry and boycotts,
Hatred and murder
From enemies on every side

Holy One of Israel
Rise up on behalf of Jerusalem
Rise up on behalf of your people

You do not grow weary
You do not slumber nor sleep
You watch over Israel

You will finish what you started
in this people you chose
For your name
and your glory

Abba, help your people today
Let Israel know you are with them
To deliver them

He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep Tehillim/Psalm 130

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 28: Hope

There is hope in the midst of the storm
Israel, remember your G-d, your maker
Remember the one who formed and fashioned you,
Who made and called you forth

Israel, you are not forgotten nor forsaken
The G-d of the whole earth is your G-d
He watches over you
He keeps you
He calls you his own

Israel, your hope is in your G-d
He is jealous over you
He is zealous for you
He is calling you near

In the midst of trial
Run into the embrace of your maker
In the midst of tribulation
Turn to him

He will deliver you, O Israel
The only true and living G-d
will deliver and bring you life
He is breathing life into you
He is restoring your soul
He is redeeming you
Your G-d never sleeps nor slumbers

Hear, O Israel,
Trust in the Lord
from this time forth and forevermore
He is yours
You are his
Your hope is in your G-d

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 27: Perhaps

Perhaps things are better than they seem
Perhaps the hatred we see is not really hatred at all
Perhaps the darkness of young ones
desiring to murder Jews in the name of god
isn’t as bad as it seems
Perhaps peace is possible
Perhaps

Perhaps the world will not continue in their anti-Semitic ways
Perhaps Israel will not be hated continually,
in the same way Jews have been hated century after century
Perhaps

Perhaps the kings will bow before the one G-d
Perhaps the enemies of G-d will stop their hating
Perhaps those who hate the G-d of Israel
will change their ways
and change their minds
and change their hearts
Perhaps

May the wicked turn to G-d
that they may not perish in their wickedness
May those who glorify death
turn from their wicked ways
and seek the living G-d who gave them life

May the haters find G-d’s love
May those seeking death find G-d’s life
May those given to darkness encounter G-d’s light

May G-d keep and protect his people Israel
from those seeking their destruction
May Israel find deliverance and life
in the G-d who has never forgotten nor forsaken them
May Israel run into the heart of G-d
who made Israel for his own glory

Baruch haShem

Standing with Israel, Standing with G-d

O G-d, do not be silent;
 do not hold aloof;
do not be quiet, O G-d! For Your enemies rage,
Your foes assert themselves. They plot craftily against Your people,
 take counsel against Your treasured ones. They say, “Let us wipe them out as a nation;
Israel’s name will be mentioned no more.”…pursue them with Your tempest,
terrify them with Your storm. Cover their faces with shame
so that they seek Your name, O Lord…May they know
that Your name, Yours alone, is the Lord,
supreme over all the earth. Tehillim/Psalm 83
