Tehillim 131/Psalm 131

Psalm 131

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

Adonai, my heart is not haughty,
Nor my eyes lofty.
Neither do I concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too profound for me.
Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.
O Israel, hope in Adonai
From this time forth and forevermore.

For Zion’s Sake

The years and the tears
The hoping and the waiting
Surely you, O Israel,
Who wait upon the Lord
Will not be ashamed

Surely Zion will not die
While watchmen cry

Your zeal, your heart
Your burden so real
The heart of Abba
Trembling with heartache for His son

Zion, can you hear
Israel, he is near
Calling, crying out
Like a woman in labor
Panting, gasping
Laying low everything keeping you
From loving him

Jerusalem, he will not forsake you
He will not forget you
Your walls before him
His peace not withholding
Death will not prosper,
Wickedness will not have its way with you

Your walls always on his mind
Your bulwarks etched in time
Made of stone
A defense
Keeping him afar
But wanting him near

Coming for you
He is
One day soon

Mocking will end
Lying will die
Hatred crushed beneath him
As He draws near
New life will take hold again

Zion’s Healing

IMG_9217 - Version 2

I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds, says Adonai,
Because they called you an outcast saying: This is Zion; no one seeks her.

– excerpt from the book of the prophet Jeremiah

The heart of the father,
The heart of Adonai
Healing is the bread given to his children
Restoration is the hope for all who are his

Israel is his child,
His firstborn son
When all the nations and all the peoples
Cast you out

O Zion, he will seek you out
Your father will find you
When you are lost and destitute
He will rescue you

The heart of the father,
The heart of Adonai
Calling out, crying out
Bringing life to his children
Remembering their cries

Writing with sobriety and sadness related to the terror attack in Tel Aviv, Israel on the evening of 8 June 2016 where four were murdered and seventeen wounded while they sat in a cafe having dessert with friends.

Remembering G-d and remembering Israel’s difficulties today.

May G-d bring comfort and shalom to all Israel this Shabbat.

Want

All we wanted was to spend some time with friends and have a dessert with some coffee, or possibly some dry red wine to wash the chocolate down. We needed to take in the warm summer evening after weeks of running trying to meet our deadlines. It was to be a simple, refreshing evening.

Now we know, it was anything but simple, anything but restful. It was the opposite. Two hate-filled men, who we thought were doing the same as us, sat down nearby, ordered dessert and then opened up their cases, pulled out their guns and began to shoot one individual after another.

A horrific scene: scrambling, running, screaming, tears, blood. Life slipping away for one, two, three, and then four. Many more struggled to keep breathing and stay alive.

May each individual touched by this terrifying event experience comfort from G-d today and in the coming days.

O G-d, what can we do
Help us

Please help Israel
Please help Your people
Please heal, comfort and console Zion today
May You give beauty for ashes today
Would You bestow the oil of joy for mourning
Would You give of your word and your Spirit generously
This Shavuot weekend

Only You can heal wounds of war, terror and trauma
From generations past and of today
Only You can make bring life and hope
In the midst of chaos and suffering

Thank You for remembering Your covenant
Thank You for bringing life and good
Out of death and destruction

Please do what only You, G-d of Israel, can do
For Your people Israel today

Shabbat Shalom to all Israel and to you today.

those who wait on G-d

I am joining with katemotaung.com for Five Minute Friday. The goal is to write for five minutes about a word. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

Today’s prompt is:

Weary

IMG_7063

The youth will faint and grow weary, the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the G-d shall renew their strength…they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40

The Holy One of Israel
Doesn’t grow weary
He doesn’t faint
nor forget his people
in their difficulty

He doesn’t turn away
from the people
He called after himself

As Jerusalem suffers,
As Israel experiences
Bigotry and boycotts,
Hatred and murder
From enemies on every side

Holy One of Israel
Rise up on behalf of Jerusalem
Rise up on behalf of your people

You do not grow weary
You do not slumber nor sleep
You watch over Israel

You will finish what you started
in this people you chose
For your name
and your glory

Abba, help your people today
Let Israel know you are with them
To deliver them

He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep Tehillim/Psalm 130

Awaiting David’s Son

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 20: Temporary

One thing is sure
The G-d of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps
and he does not forget his promises
and he cannot be unfaithful to his covenant of love

Israel’s momentary afflictions,
and turmoil
and difficulty
will cease

Israel’s future is bright
Jerusalem will shine
like a lamp that burns
with the salvation of her G-d
Zion will be bright with righteousness

All G-d said will be done
Nothing will stop what
The King of the universe,
The one G-d of heaven and earth
The one G-d of all creation will do

The Holy One of Israel
will keep his promises to Israel
He will finish what he started
with this people

G-d will see his people through
He will deliver Zion
Every word he spoke
will be completed

The earth will see
The deliverance of the sons of Zion

The creation awaits the day of Mashiach
All the sons of man will see
and know
and comprehend
when David’s son comes

All will see
and know
and glorify the Holy one of Israel

Wait,
with hope
and anticipation
and longing
for that day

For Zion’s sake I will not hold my peace, For Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a lamp that burns. Isaiah 62

Come to Me

140702 2 Zion Mourns - Version 2

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Writing with sorrow over the last week of increased terror and loss of life in Israel.

Day 17: Offer

Israel, come to me
The offer resounded in the heart of the son

Israel heard this phrase
Over and over and over again
Yet he could not quite comprehend
What it meant
and where it was coming from

In your fear and anxiety,
Israel, come to me

He heard this phrase
and desperately wanted it to be real
Yet nothing had ever helped before

Israel felt stuck
and unable to trust anyone anymore
No one loved him
No one really cared for this son
Forgotten and forsaken by all
Yet remembered by one

Come to me, my son
The voice resounded
It was so loud this time

Israel turned towards the voice
He fell on his face
and wept
Desperately
He waited for the voice
to lead him home

Abba, please hear Israel’s desperate cries in these days and show Israel the way to safety.

Israel, trust in Adonai, from this time forth and forevermore. Tehillim/Psalm 131

A Time to Laugh, A Time to Weep

c612dc4214088c665a96bf296a4ffd0a

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 15: Laugh

There is a time to laugh and a time to weep,
a time to mourn and a time to dance
says the wise man

It is a time of weeping for many in Israel today
But may the G-d who is Zion’s comfort
Comfort Zion today

May the G-d who is the hope of Israel
Breathe hope into hearts today

May the G-d who is the Keeper of Israel,
Who neither slumbers nor sleeps
Keep his people today

As the nations rage against G-d
and against his people
and against everything good he gives freely
He is not moved
He laughs at the foolish desires of man
to enthrone themselves above him

Weeping and sorrow, loss and mourning,
Death, violence and injustice,
Darkness and rage
These will all see their final end
One day soon

Joy and life, hope and righteousness,
Justice, peace and goodness,
Light and love
will have their day in fullness
Sooner than we know

May our eyes be lifted to heaven
from where our help comes

May our voices cry out to G-d
who created Israel for himself
to keep Israel for himself

May our voices be heard
By the Holy One of Israel

May the Maker of the universe
preserve and protect life,
May he bring forth new life
May he stop death, terror and hatred
By his own hand for himself,
For his own name
that all may look to the one G-d
who gives all life
and gives every man breath

As the Storm Rages

IMG_0661 - Version 2

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 12: Storm

As the storm rages
in the land of your inheritance
O My people
Lift your eyes to me
Lift your hearts to me
I am your help,
I am your keeper
I do not slumber nor sleep

Trust in me, O Israel
Turn your eyes to me, my beloved people
Run into my arms for safety and deliverance
Cry out to me in your difficulty
I will help you
I will keep you
I love you
I will preserve you
I will preserve your life from destruction

As the storm rages all around
Come to me
Find rest and safety in me
Find peace and hope in me
I am your safety
I am your hope

O Israel, run into me

I will lift my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth. Tehillim/Psalm 121

G-d of Life

IMG21_3

Writing Every Day for Thirty-One Days
to Speak Life over Israel

While much of the earth is speaking death and accusation over the Jewish nation, let’s take 31 days to do the opposite. Let’s speak life over the nation of Israel and the Jewish people.

Day 11: Rest

As death and terror rage against life
May the one and only G-d of life
Be made known
To the children of men

There is one G-d who creates all things
He has created all to love him and worship him
He has created
Those who love him and those who hate him

He wants that all would love him

He will have his way,
One day sooner than later
The Holy One of Israel, the one G-d
will have his way

Please protect and preserve life
In Israel today
Blessed be your name

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, may they prosper who love you.
